2017 March for Life

The Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus were proud to support the youth of Sacred Heart parish and academy’s trip to Washington DC for the 2017 March for Life. The youth traveled to Washington from January 24th through January 28th. The trip included visits to Arlington Cemetery,  Lincoln Memorial and National Archive. The group also attended the vigil Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.  The vigil Mass included five cardinals, 40 bishops, 320 priests, 90 deacons, 545 seminarians and a congregation of approximately 12,000 participants. Cardinal Dolan presided over the Mass and repeatedly drew a parallels between the Church and the mother’s womb as a sacred sanctuary for life.

On Friday, January 27th the young people attended the rally at the Washington Monument where they heard speeches by Kellyanne Conway and Vice President Mike Pence. Following the rally the large crowd marched up the Constitution avenue to the steps of the Supreme Court. The 44th annual March was attended by an estimated 400,000 – 500,000 people. It was a blessing to attend.
